LCSD, SUPAC to Host Special Education Workshop

Special Education Department is partnering with the Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center (SUPAC), Mid-State Special Education Parent Technical Assistance Center to present Understanding Diploma and Credential Options for Students with Disabilities.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, February 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room (195 Blackberry Road). SUPAC Training Specialist Kristine O’Brien will present this workshop and discuss what parents and guardians need to know about preparing for life after graduation.

Those in attendance will learn about the different requirements for the Regents and Local Diploma, as well as how students can use their strengths to achieve a diploma through multiple pathways. The workshop also will explore the importance of career readiness skills and the credentials available to students. This training will help parents and guardians navigate which options are the best for their child.

SUPAC is funded through a contract with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Special Education and seeks to empower parents to become meaningfully involved in their children’s education through school, family, and community partnerships. SUPAC is a project of the Center on Human Policy and is located on the Syracuse University campus.
